Kentish jumped up with a start. He had been so focussed on watching the alley he had missed Jax slowly making her way back towards him. She didn’t make herself easy to see, but Kentish was usually much better at observing and hearing people – it was rare for someone to get a jump on him.

9.0 – Kentish and Jax

Year: 2287

Kentish 

Kentish was close to where he had stolen the watch. All he had to do was find a secluded yet accessible alley to hide it. He spied a narrow alley squashed between an Indian takeaway and a Suds Launderette. It was the perfect location and probably only used by the companies to store their bins, and the occasional tramp, but it seemed empty today.

7.0 – Kentish

Year: 2287

Kentish was frustrated and angry, but mostly embarrassed. As he walked down the road, he muttered to himself, often repeating, “Highbury can’t speak to me like that.” She could. “She never appreciates anything that I do.” She did.

3.0 – Highbury

“Highbury, Highbury! Look what I’ve got.”

Kentish was out of breath and excited. He couldn’t believe his luck. A real Holowatch, and so easy to grab too. As he ran, many of the other children looked up at him from around the warehouse he called home.

1.0 – Jax

Jax climbed the steps of the Magline subway feeling a little shaky. She always felt like this after riding the Magline; too much speed, not enough air and strangers all around. She was just thankful she wasn’t riding the fastest Mag.
