World Building – 6 – Evolution of Online Shopping in the UK

In the 2020s the high street in the UK saw a significant decline in footfall as online shopping became ever more popular. Some companies tried to counter this trend by using shops as a means of providing experiences, as opposed to shopping. Samsung KX was one example, the shop wasn’t designed for products to be purchased, but as a showcase of Samsung product excellence.

World Building – 5 – The UK High Street, From Physical to Digital

The early 21st Century saw a dramatic shift from buying products from high street shops to utilising the internet. Many companies tried to transfer their sales to an online platform but struggled to compete while simultaneously owning physical shops. Previous governments had pledged and subsequently failed to deliver the housing required to sustain the market and reduce prices. As part of the Sunrise Plan, the coalition government enacted a series of planning permission changes and put forward an aggressive investment scheme designed to boost the production of housing by private developers and local authorities.

8.0 – Jax

Year: 2287

Jax was home. As she walked into the building her neighbour, Mrs Onishi was at the computers, no doubt checking her mail.

“Hello Mrs Onishi” Jax called and waved.

“Oh, Jax. I’m so glad to see you. Come over here and help an old lady with the computer, won’t you?” Mrs Onishi replied. She was always struggling with the computers. Jax was surprised any of them still worked, they were old, decades old and only a few systems were minimally compatible with them. Some residential buildings had communal workspaces for residents, most hadn’t been upgraded for a long time.
